A Quick Reset

Keepaway, Nap-Attacks, and the Good Life

There is no sound quite like a brooder of 80 chicks. Sound on!

When they get an especially good treat, the chicks love to flaunt it until others notice and chase them. It’s their own tiny game of keepaway.

These are Pioneer Broilers, don’t they look funny?! They are part Transylvanian Naked Neck (a heritage breed). We chose them because they aren’t the typical heavy-set industrial birds. They are hardy, active foragers who actually love to explore the pasture when they get out there. (Plus, they are really friendly.)

From Brooder to Pasture

The goal at Old Dog is always the same: a high quality of life. In a few weeks, these birds will transition outside into the sunshine and fresh air. No cramped cages and artificial lights for these guys! Just lots of space for birds to be birds.

The Good Life

Our resident chicken whisperer, Tasha, soothes this little one into a mid-afternoon snooze. These birds are cared for every day of their lives.

These little black fluffers (our future layers) will provide those deep, chocolate-brown eggs we all love. For now, they are focused on growing feathers and melting our hearts.

Whether you're watching the storms roll through or taking a quick break between chores, I hope these little cheepers give you the same reset they give us. 💛
